XKRIMA CLOSE-QUARTERS COMBAT INSTITUTE

The Xkrima Close-Quarters Combat Institute was established in the year 2001 under the auspices of People's CORE, a federally registered not-for-profit 501 © (3) organization based in Los Angeles. XCQC advocates traditional arts including Filipino Eskrima. The original instructor and current Eskrima adviser at the XCQC Institute, Grandmaster Crispulo ‘Ising' Atillo,  is the innovator of Atillo Balintawak Eskrima System and world-renowned Eskrima Grandmaster.

Eskrima (aka arnis and kali) is as old as the Philippines. It is germane to the Filipino, his culture and temperament. During the pre-historic times, it was indulged in as a form of recreation. Filipinos learned it together with reading, writing, religion, cantation and Sanskrit. It had its variations in the form of dance and combative art known as sayaw or sinulog, which was both artistic and entertaining. During the time of Spanish colonization, Eskrima evolved and developed as a fighting system (stick, blade and unarmed) used against the foreign invaders and later on became more popular as a traditional art of stick fighting, one of the most respected in the contemporary world of ethnic martial arts.

XCQC Institute Eskrima practitioners have been invited to perform in schools, universities and other community events. The Institute regularly perform at the annual 2-day Lotus Festival at Echo Park sponsored by the City of Los Angeles with about 150,000 a day in attendance.

Due to community demand and the calls of time, XCQC Institute expanded its teaching to practical self-defense in the form of Combat Aikido and the Israeli reality-based Commando Krav Maga.

Combat Aikido has its foundation in the traditional art of Japanese Aikido. The techniques are modified to adapt to contemporary street aggression. The system integrates combative self-defense tactics and practical counter attack techniques that have been proven to be effective in neutralizing aggressors against its practitioners.

The XCQC Institute boost of men and women students from different sectors: entertainment and movie industry, law enforcement, professionals, security agencies, martial artists in different disciplines, students and others.

It is interesting to note that many CQC students have different martial arts and sports background: karate, aikido, taekwondo, judo, boxing and kungfu.
